THE NIGHT BELONGS TO US
I created the urban artwork THE NIGHT IS OURS based on a feeling that many women know but rarely express. It is an attempt to visualise what it feels like to walk alone through public spaces. The constant alertness. The unconscious decision to walk faster. The feeling of crossing an invisible boundary.
In this work, two female figures appear on a threshold: one steps into the darkness, the other hesitates in public. The layered walls, text fragments and rough surfaces capture tension and uncertainty. The red bag is not a warning, but a reminder of humanity – of presence, emotion and lived experience.
This feeling is not limited to the night. It exists in quiet places, in empty streets, in moments of transition. For young and old alike.
Inspired by The Night Belongs to Us, a campaign by the feminist movement Dolle Mina, which calls for shared responsibility for safety in public spaces.
