WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR
Typical Dutch winter landscape with people skating on natural ice. I made this artwork in the winter of 2014 / 2015, because it seemed an appropriate time of the year. Personally, I very much like the winter season. Perhaps because I was born in January. All of my artworks are inspired by weathered walls with posters, peeling paint and all kinds of things in dilapidation.
I try to create something new, something beautiful with these elements.
This particular artwork is part of the Collages series. These collages are built up with all kinds of pictures, photos and images that I have collected over the years.
I start an artwork with creating a surface by splashing or stamping with watercolor or acrylic paint. Some of the works are created by only arranging photographs in a certain way. Other collages are created with transferred images that are pulled loose or torn. Old and torn, outworn and weathered. Layer upon layer.
