This year, db Waterman will participate in the Tokyo Art Fair for the first time. Her Mixed Media / Collage artworks will participate virtually and be seen on large screens

Invited by Contemporary Art Collectors, one of the most influential art and culture platforms focused on collecting contemporary art, db Waterman will be participating with three artworks.

WHY TOKYO?

Tokyo is a very dynamic city in the global art market. By 2019, it had become the 5th largest city in the world regarding art sales volume.

Since the pandemic, Japan has been making an ambitious and concerted effort to reclaim its previously held status as a key player in the global art market.

Japan is the third largest economy in the world after the USA and China, whilst Tokyo is considered the most significant urban economy on the planet and is the second wealthiest city in the world with 81,645 individuals with assets above USD 5 million (second only to New York).

Tokyo’s vibrant gallery scene has been established for over 50 years and has amongst the highest curatorial standards in programming and presentation anywhere in the world.

Japan has a global status as an arbiter of taste, its storied history as an international art market hub, the government’s recent tax deregulations, and, most importantly, the rise of a whole new generation of Japanese art collectors.

A younger generation of new collectors is adding to the country's highly sophisticated collector base.

There has been a growth of young collectors in recent years, and most of them are entrepreneurs who resonate with contemporary artists and their artworks.

About Contemporary Art Collectors:

After two successful virtual exhibitions and enquiries from art collectors and artists, we decided that this project had to happen!

VIRTUAL GALLERY

We decided to combine the launch of the Virtual Gallery with the Art Fair in Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

A gallery and exhibition will open at the Tokyo Tower Art Fair on 10-12 March 2023.

TTAF will be held in the iconic Tokyo Tower, a communication and observation tower in Minato, Tokyo, Japan, built in 1958. At 332.9 metres, it is the second tallest structure in Japan. More than 150 million people have visited the tower.

TTAF is a three-day art fair as a satellite of Art Fair Tokyo, Japan's most important and oldest art fair in Asia. Today, Tokyo attracts top collectors and art buyers, who are flown in from all over the world to discover new artists.
