Art as an investment

An investment portfolio must always make room for investments in art as the return on works

of art is pretty high: 13 percent. Art is a good hedge against inflation, as it is considered a

safe and stable investment.

First, I really must suggest for you to purchase artworks that you can enjoy. If you have got

the choice, why not choose the paintings that are really attractive for you.

But there are some things you should pay attention to:

1. Buy art from artists who are doing well in the art market. DB Waterman would be e

great choice. She is one of the best-selling and most promising Dutch artists.

2. Buy art when it still is affordable. DB Waterman’s paintings can still be properly

described as such. Her prices are rising, but if you buy now, her paintings still are a

very attractive and affordable investment.

3. Concentrate on a limited number of artists (2 or 3), so you can become an expert of

these artists.

4. Buy paintings in oil or acrylic, works that will last ages. Be careful with modern

techniques like e-prints, computer graphics, digital art, virtual art, internet art,

computer animation, video games, 3D printing and computer robotics, because they

all may lose color and be totally worthless in thirty years.

But do buy the paintings you love and only then choose the ones that are attractive

investments.

No fun having paintings stored in the attic, buy the ones that you want in your living room.
